Come Christkindlmarkts With Us @ People’s Gas Holiday Market!

Downtown Pittsburgh for the Holidays

We’re getting extra hygge with it for the Holidays this year! Come Downtown and join in the festivities all season long with 3 local, handmade maker/artists (ourselves Allison & Craig here at strawberryluna, our friend Kim Fox of Worker Bird and Kirsten Lowe-Rebel of KLoRebel) as we pop-up our 1st ever Holiday Shop in beautiful Market Square through the Holidays!

We are 3 Pittsburgh artists, and a part of the new Monmade craft entrepreneurial trade group here in Pittsburgh, and are sharing an adorable Chalet for the duration of the People’s Gas Holiday Market. We’ll be nestled with many other vendors in Market Square in our Chalet Shop 7 days a week through 12/23/17 (yes, for 6 weeks yep!) offering our hand crafted goods, all made right here in Western, PA by our hands. It’s pretty special yinz.

Inspired by the original German Christkindlmarkts (or “Christmas Market”), the Peoples Gas Holiday Market brings a cherished European tradition to Pittsburgh with an international flair, a touch of local charm, and a pinch of sugar, spice, and everything nice. From Friday, November 17th – Saturday, December 23rd, drop on by Market Square in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh to see for yourself! As you weave through the Alpine-style wooden chalets, brimming with high quality gifts, you’ll experience a one-of-a-kind holiday shopping experience.

Below is just a small sample of work by strawberryluna, Worker Bird and KLoRebel

With a twinkle of lights, a few flurries in the air, and a warm drink in your hands, who knows…the Holiday Market might become a bit magical, if you just believe.

A Quick Word About Shopping Small:

When you shop with small businesses, handmade makers, and American made artisans your purchases make a direct impact on many lives. For instance, in our case, when you shop with us, we then also support other small, local businesses. How? We source our materials from US-based and US-manufacturing producers & distributors for our papers (like Domtar Cougar and French Paper), inks ( we use mainly Speedball), screens, squeeges, output films (all from Pittsburgh’s own Tech Support Screenprinting Supplies) and more. We also wholesale our art work to many independent shops (local favorites Wildcard in Lawrenceville and Sapling & Sons in Beaver, PA) around the country who do more of the same and support more small businesses in turn.

We think it’s a pretty great cycle; we hope that you do too. Best & brightest! Happy Holidays to all!

Steve Frykholm’s Picnic Posters for Herman Miller

WHY_PicnicPosters_02One day out of the blue our good friend Terrence McClusky sent a link to an incredible little blog post and video about Herman Miller designer Steve Frykholm and his iconic “Picnic Posters”, created for the company’s annual employee & family picnics.

As young designer in 1970 (and Herman Miller’s first in-house graphic designer) Frykholm was approached to try his hand at creating a poster to announce the annual picnic that year. What blossomed from a simple side-project utilizing old school techniques that he learned in the Peace Corps is honestly so wonderful.

“It’s a sequence of events, one color at a time. And then that last one goes on and it’s better than you imagined.” – Steve Frykholm

Be still my heart.
