Black Friday & Cyber Monday Small Business Weekend Deals!

img_1847

Hello! A quick and heartfelt word from us on this Black Friday / Small Business Saturday / Cyber Monday holiday gift buying weekend. We are just a two-person studio and every single purchase is incredibly meaningful to us. Each & every single one. We’ve met many thousands of lovely people in person at shows and those encounters are warm and wonderful. (We love to nerd out about art!) But it’s not always as simple to have that same connection with an online transaction. We know, we get it. So we just wanted to take a moment to say how much it means to us that with every purchase, someone is living with our work in their homes, offices, or even school rooms.

As a big thanks, we love to do some Holiday Sales & Deals, so here you go friends! Feel free to use any of these coupon codes on our Bigcartel Shop here or in our Etsy Shop here.

A Quick Word About Shopping Small:

When you shop with small businesses, handmade makers, and American made artisans your purchases make a direct impact on many lives. For instance, in our case, when you shop with us, we then also support other small, local businesses. How? We source our materials from US-based and US-manufacturing producers & distributors for our papers (like Domtar Cougar and French Paper), inks ( we use mainly Speedball), screens, squeeges, output films (all from Pittsburgh’s own Tech Support Screenprinting Supplies) and more. We also wholesale our art work to many independent shops (local favorites Wildcard in Lawrenceville and Sapling & Sons in Beaver, PA) around the country who do more of the same and support more small businesses in turn.

We think it’s a pretty great cycle; we hope that you do too. Best & brightest! Happy Holidays to all!

2 New Art Print Releases: Be Kind Always

“Be Kind Always”, Introducing 2 new art prints in 2 fresh colorways!
“Be Kind Always”, so nice, we designed it twice. Both versions of “Be Kind Always” are sized at 12×12 inches, aka Record / LP frame size and are open edition, Indigo art prints in bright sky blue and lime green.
What we can say? Could be Allison’s Quaker school education showing, we just think life should be that simple. As humans, we might not always get there every day, but we believe one should always try. And here’s a friendly little cheerleader to remind you.
We decided to experiment with this design, and these two new art prints are Indigo prints, rather than silkscreens. Following a bolder and brighter illustration route than we could with screen printing we’re exploring a more modern printing technique by utilizing the Indigo press format. After all, screen printing is a lovely and ancient tradition, but we love having a foot in both the historic past and the ever-changing future at the same time whenever possible. With incredible detail & vibrant colors and archival inks and archival, eco-certified 100lb cover paper (see details below) we think you’ll love this addition too.
Both colorways of “Be Kind Always” are now available in our webshop here and also in our Etsy Shop here $18 each.
Specially designed and sized to slip right into an ubiquitous and inexpensive frame. Square never looked so hip.
  • Edition: Open. Each print is hand signed and titled.
  • Size: Paper size – 12 x12 inches (30.5cm x 30.5 cm.) Image Size – 10×10 to allow plenty of room for a matte, if desired.
  • Paper: Mohawk Via Bright White, 100lb cover weight which is an archival, no-acid, American manufactured paper by Mohawk using Wind Power electricity. Produced with 30% post consumer recycled content. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Green Seal Certified.
  • Fits beautifully into a standard 12×12 inch frame with or without a matte.
Additional photo below shows how this print might looked framed. (Sold unframed & without a matte.)

New release: Giclee art prints Part 1: Ghost Ship By Day & Ghost Ship by Night

2 new giclee prints, Ghost Ship By Day & Ghost Ship By Night, both sold either separately or as a diptych set. Click for info or to purchase prints.

As designers and illustrators for hire, we’ve been getting more into more really fun and cool non-silkscreen printed work this year. Sometimes in working on sketches for clients, we get to try out new things, and new styles that wouldn’t always be a great fit for the super labor intensive, one-color-at-a-time method of hand screenprinting as we do with our rock posters and many art prints. Sometimes those sketches move forward, sometimes they don’t. Until now that is. Rather than just let some designs die a slow, sad death in a file somewhere even though we really like the art work, we’ve been mulling over the chance to create a new line of art prints in the form of giclees.

And, in a multi-part series of blog posts, we’re announcing their release into the world. Hooray!

Part 1, Ghost Ship By Day and Ghost Ship By Night, a 2-print diptych set. These 2 prints were designed to go perfectly together, but also are fully able to stand alone as well. Hence, we are offering them for sale either individually for $20 a piece, or as a true diptych set for $35. A nice little deal!

* Extra bonus: Use the coupon code STRAWBERRYLUNABLOG10 during checkout in my Etsy shop and receive 10% off your entire order! *

New giclee art print, "Ghost Ship By Day". Click for more info or to purchase a print.

I have a thing for Ghost Ships, especially the spooky ones. From reading stories about the famous Marie Celeste as child to The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, ships adrift without a crew, carried on the whims of the sea and the winds have long fascinated me.

In this original illustration “Ghost Ship By Day”, there’s the nice bright, Daylight aspect of a journey. Setting out, high hopes and sun fill this illustration.

Below is “Ghost Ship By Night”, the second of a 2-part image showing the Night time aspect of an ocean voyage. Shrouded in moonlight and mystery, this Ghost Ship print moves ever on alone.

Many Ghost Ships roamed the seas alone for months or even years, seeing many suns rise and set in their solitary journeys without a living crew.

Both prints are available individually or as a set now at my website here and also in my Etsy shop here.

Calendars quite something, right? They help us keep track of time, but they can also help set a mood for the day. Let’s face it, of all of the things that we look at each & every day? A least a few should make you happy just by eyeballing ’em. My 2011 “Hello Birds” Calendar aims to do just that. It’s just a fresh new day with some bird friends, saying “Hello.” Pretty good start already!

Steeltown Stock, poster art show opens this Friday, June 4th!

There’s a new poster show in town, and it’s going to be rad. I’m thrilled to have been asked by the excellent Pittsburgh arts blog Steeltown Anthem’s Mundania Horvath to be in Steeltown Stock, a big fat cool showcase of local printmakers and poster artists.

Steeltown Stock opens this Friday, June 4th at the <C> SPACE COLLECTIVE on Penn Avenue (4823 Penn Avenue, 15224) with an opening reception. Posters and prints on display as well as other prints will be available for purchase, many directly from the artists themselves. How cool is that?! (Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there for the opening reception since I will be in NYC for the Renegade Craft Fair Brooklyn, but I will definitely be around for the closing reception on Friday June 25th, so stop by then too.) Posters & prints will be available for sale throughout the duration of the show, but will be in limited quantities for sure.

The many faces of Pittsburgh printmaking and design will be represented at the Steeltown Stock gallery show at the <C> Space Collective from letterpress to silk screen, block printing, and more all wrapped up into one rad talent pool of illustration and design printed by hand and locally by working Pittsburgh artists.
