Strawberryluna

412Creative + strawberryluna = love

Pittsburgh is BOOMING these days with smart, creative and cool people. When I first moved here on a whim many years ago, Pittsburgh was a perfectly nice city across the state from my home in Philadelphia. It seemed like an easy move to test the waters of living somewhere else.

Now? Pittsburgh is wicked awesome. And one of the new avenues of documenting and sharing the many ways in which this city has organically become a vibrant hub of creativity, design and culture is 412Creative. Utilizing multi-disciplinary talents of their own to showcase the same going on and growing around the city, 412Creative describes themselves as:

“Devoted to showcasing smart and effective design and advertising.  The website was motivated by a nagging question, one that pops up frequently when looking through magazines, surfing the Web or watching the news: “Who did that?”

To that end, we’re incredibly honored to have shared a recent Saturday with 412Creative’s Elvira Eichleay and Joey Kennedy so that they could put together this wonderful piece on our studio, our process and our creative lives in Pittsburgh.

strawberryluna Interview + Studio Tour by Steeltown Anthem

Take a peek into the inner workings of strawberryluna with this interview & studio tour put together by our friends and Pittsburgh art & design blogger Dane from Steeltown Anthem and photographer Kristy of Burning Bright Studios.

We’ve been trying to set a date to do a studio tour with Dane for over a year, and hooray! It finally happened. Between all of our busy travel and work schedules it seemed like a Herculean feat, but in the meantime we’ve all gotten to know each other and become friends. And that always makes an interview so much easier.

Learn a little more about our handmade process of silkscreening prints and posters, how we got started, what our inspirations are, what we’re working on now, see where we do our print work and much more.

See the entire interview and tons of photos over here at Steeltown Anthem. We hope that you enjoy!

Exclusive new Designer Desktops set for Design Milk: “Light As A Bird” released!

Click to download a free, full-sized version of our Designer Desktop for July from Design Milk! Formatted for your computer, iPad and iPhone.

Hello there! We’re really excited to finally share a new bit of design work with everyone. We were approached by the powerhouse design blog Design Milk
(huge shout out thanks to lovely Kelly at Design Crush for the recommendation) in May to be a part of their ongoing curated Designer Desktops series. Of course, being a fan of Design Milk for quite sometime I said yes right away.

Jaime, the founder of Design Milk, asked us to choose a design related quote and then work from there to create a suitable exclusive illustration for desktop backgrounds and Apple wallpapers. Preferably something which would also relate to design, naturally. When I came across this gem by Coco Chanel:

“I never wanted to weigh more heavily on a man than a bird.”

I fell in love instantly and we went with it. Read more about the inspiration for these designs here at Design Milk

Our Designer Desktops are FREE and available for download in multiple formats exclusively at Design Milk here for the entire month of July. There are 4 sizes to choose from for standard computer monitors as well as an iPad & an iPhone version too. All especially formatted for perfection, of course! Oh happy day, ohdeedoh’s piece on our prints!

Click here to read the full post on ohdeedoh!

I woke up to a happy surprise today, the fantastic blog ohdeedoh wrote a really lovely piece on our prints! ohdeedoh is the perfect intersection of home & kid-friendly design, which is a really cool niche, as it insists on being very livable rather than high-concept focus. I love that. We’re just tickled that author  Sarah Rae Trover at ohdeedoh found our work and wrote such a fresh post about us. With the hand silkscreen printing process being so labor intensive (a “simple” 3-color print, edition of 100 takes 6-10 hours to complete), I can’t tell you how refreshing and awesome it is to see that a great blog like ohdeedoh gets it. Thank you so much!

Here is a little snippet for you:

“When it comes to artwork for children’s rooms it can be rare to find actual screen printed pieces that most parents would consider affordable. These 10 items all come in under $25 and are all handmade, layer by layer and color by color.”

All of the featured prints above (and more, of course!) are available at my website here, or click any of the below images to see larger images and more information on my hand silkcreen printed art prints & posters.
