New poster released: Ra Ra Riot w/ Chikita Violenta & We Barbarians

All new 2-color hand screenprinted poster for Ra Ra Riot. (Click to purchase or for more info.)

It’s a year in the making, but I’m so happy things work out the way that that do sometimes. We had originally talked with Ra Ra Riot‘s management over a year ago about working together on a poster, and here were are, October 2010 when it all came together. Huzzah!

The show was amazing, and surprising too. We arrived home from a great weekend in DC for Crafty Bastards just in time for me to edition & sign the posters for Sunday night’s Ra Ra Riot 10/2 show, gulp some homemade soup for dinner and run on down to Diesel for the show. As it turned, out, I was selling my posters behind the merch booth that evening. It was good spot to catch the amazing openers We Barbarians (from California) and Chikita Violenta (hailing from Mexico City), all of whom were super rad as well. Thanks to Rachel, the bands, & everyone at the show for great night 🙂

Info about this new poster release:

Modern & looking back to the past, like thinking about living off of the backs of our ancestors. That’s a bit how Ra Ra Riot‘s awesome sound feels. We love them! And we’re super aced to do this poster for their Pittsburgh, PA show.

New art prints released: Naptime & I Love My Books!

New 3 color hand silkscreened art print, "Naptime". (click to purchase or for more info.)

For a while now I’ve been wanting to try a new layout, a square one, and one that would fit right into an LP record frame. Well, that time has come.

It’s “Naptime”. We all get sleepy snuggly sometimes, and even natural-born enemies can be the best of friends. You just gotta let your softer side rule.

“Naptime” is the first print in that size and layout. From an illustration that I did a few weeks ago while hanging out on a lazy Sunday afternoon off, while we were totally being summer tv heads. Probably we were watching some cooking shows, or Holmes On Holmes (my new obsession) or such like television.

Anyhoo, I also decided rather than waste paper or have a weirdly shaped cast off, as the 12×12 inch size is smaller than my normal print & paper size, that I would run a smaller print at the same, 2-up. (2-up means printing 2 or more designs on the same page at the same time, cutting them down and apart after printing.) So, I did an ode to books for the secondary smaller design, as below, called “I Love My Books”. ‘Cause I do.

New 3-color (with overprints) mini art print, "I Love My Books", hand screenprinted. (click ot purchase or for more info.)

All sunny and warm, just like this summer. Both “Naptime” and  “I Love My Books” prints are now available at my website here and also in my Etsy shop here. Hot-cha! 2-color, all hand screenprinted poster for The New Pornographers' show at Terminal 5 in NYC. (click to purchase or for more info)

I’m a little late to post this, my apologies. Summer brain seems to have taken a good hold of me lately when I’m not working.

Anyhoo, here is our latest poster, and we’re pretty danged excited about this one. We’re a part of The New Pornographers tour poster series for their Summer 2010 tour. A tour series is where a band commissions a different poster for each stop on their tour, and it’s always a treat to see the variety of work, as well as it being a super way for fans to connect to that night’s show.

Details:

Hand screenprinted poster for The New Pornographers with The Dodos, and The Dutchess & The Duke’s show on June 19, 2010 at Terminal 5, New York, NY.

One of our long time favorites, The New Pornographers. Huzzaah! We are really excited to be a part of their summer 2010 tour poster series, where the band has a different gig poster artist do a different poster design for each stop on the tour. Plus the neato line up of bands on this tour, and, being that we’re super down with NYC, winner winner! So hey chum, you are looking at my all hand screenprinted poster for this awesome line up of bands. It’s my 2-color, suggestive and rockin’ all hand screenprinted poster with tender pink and midnight black, hand mixed and non-toxic water based screenprinting inks.

New art print released! “The Lady and The Wolf”

My new 2 color, all hand screenprinted art print "The Lady & The Wolf" (Click for more info or to purchase.)

Been  busy busy busy printing like crazy lately! This is my newest art print and new release “The Lady & The Wolf”, a 2 color hand screenprinted re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood. But you know, for grown ups. Little Red Riding Hood here, is all grown up, but in no less danger.

This is the first print in an ongoing series of my interpretations of the folk & fairy tales I grew up reading, but for grown ups working with themes of sex, death, & the supernatural.

I’ve been fascinated and in love with folk & fairy tales my entire life. These days, many people know them best as tales for children, however many of our most loved fairy tales have much more brutal original tellings than you might imagine something fit for little kids. I read folk & fairy tales obsessively, the darker the roots of the tale, the more I love it. It’s super interesting how the same stories appear in similar versions and places for both children and (especially originally) for adults as well.

“The Lady & The Wolf” is my 2-color, all hand screen printed art print with scarlet blood red and semi-transparent midnight black hand mixed and non-toxic water based inks. Black over prints red in parts, blending the where the Lady ends and the Wolf begins. Edition of 75. Size: 16 x22 inches (39.4 cm x 55.9 cm.) Paper: acid free & archival Cougar, White 100lb cover weight.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. This limited edition screenprint is now available on my website HERE.

And, if you like process photographs, check out my Flickr account page here (or click the images below) with photos of the print being made! A few selections are below for you.

Some new strawberryluna releases!…?…!

Ok, I won’t lie. This summer and well, now early fall have been breakneck speed work, travel to several shows all over the country (Chicago Flatstock, Seattle Flatstock & Chicago Renegade, to name a few), packing orders (with many prints and posters now sold out) and more work for me here at strawberryluna World Wide HQ. So much so that I seem to have forgotten to update my ol’  bloggery here with a few “new” prints and posters. Whoopsie daisy Maisy!

So, without further chit chat, I bring you some “new” releases! Ooooohhhhh…

First up, POSTERS:

Hey, remember Joe Cocker? The man was and IS a rock’n’roll animal to the core. And, he’s been touring pretty much non-stop since the John Belushi SNL skit days, (too young to know what I’m talking about? Weren’t watching SNL as a little kid like I was? Learn here whippersnapper.) Anyway, I had the supreme honor of doing a poster for his show at the Delta Classic Chastain Park Ampitheater in Atlanta, GA.

Next up, is my rainy day homage to one of my favorite US cities: Seattle! For one of the premier rock poster shows, Flatstock, designers & poster artists have free range to produce a poster for each Flatstock and it’s super fun to do. This year for Seattle’s Flatstock, which happens during the Bumbershoot Music Festival, I made a little play on Seattle & Pittsburgh’s similarity – rain. This poster is based on an illustration that I’ve had floating around for about a year and that I really wanted to use, so I added some musical notes and textures and a lil mod-city in the background to finish the layout. Hope that you dig.

Don’t mess with these badass ladies. Just, effin’ don’t.

2-color, hand screenprinted poster for The Detroit Cobras.

Yeah! Kitty kitty. This is my all hand screenprinted poster for the awesome, kickass band The Detroit Cobras‘ show with Dex Romweber Duo on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Mr. Small’s Theatre, Pittsburgh, PA. I got to catch the show last night and they were fantastic! Even with singer Rachel Nagy admitting to feeling under the weather, the band was hot and ON. We loved it. Thank you Detroit Cobras! They are still on tour, so do catch a set if they are in your town.

So excited to once again do a poster for some of the most kickass ladies of ROCK, the awesome Detroit Cobras. This feline of a poster is a 2-color, multi-layered print with blood red and midnight black inks. The black is slightly transparent, allowing repetition of awesomeness to show through. See it? Yeah, that’s right pal. Edition of just 80. Size: 16w x 22h inches. Paper: acid-free & archival Cougar 100 lb White, cover weight.

Here are a few process photos of this poster as I printed, with more over on my Flickr page too.

Hand screenprinted 4-color poster for A.C. Newman & The Broken Wests show in Pittsburgh. PA.

Hand screenprinted 4-color poster for A.C. Newman & The Broken West's show in Pittsburgh. PA.

Yeps! It was a great show, and sold out, did you go? The show was in the film theater of the Andy Warhol Museum, there was room for maybe about 150 people, so maybe you did and maybe you didn’t.  If you’re the latter, too bad. it was an awesome show, replete with jokes about dickery and private dressing rooms in one’s mind.

The above is my poster for the show, proudly a part of the A.C. Newman spring tour 2009 poster series for their show with The Broken West (they were lovely) on Saturday March 28th 2009 at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA. Getting to do a hand screenprinted poster for any show at the Warhol Museum is a thrill in an “extension of a legacy” sort of way. If you feel me.

Come closer, that’s it, just a step more…let me take your photo…

This swirling hypnotic psychedelia is my 4-color, all hand screenprinted poster with black, magenta & cyan inks. Overprint magic makes a pretty luscious violet. Edition of 150 Size: 16w x 22h inches. Paper: acid-free & archival Cougar 100 lb White, cover weight.

The Dandy Warhols, new poster released!

Yeah, what is UP!

I just released a new poster for a great new band called The Dandy Warhols, perhaps you’ve heard of them? Just kiddin’, goofus. They’ve been around the block and back, consistently putting out good solid psych-pop, which I love. I’m pleased as piked punch to have done a poster for The Dandys Bournemouth UK show with the lovely  Fabienne Delsol  through the Richard Goodall Gallery as a part of their European tour series.

2-color hand screenprinted poster for The Dandy Warhols in Bournemouth UK

2-color hand screenprinted poster for The Dandy Warhols in Bournemouth UK

This poster is all hand screenprinted by me, 2-colors on acid-free & archival Cougar White, 100lb heavy cover stock. Available now at my website, or my Etsy store.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend  Ondi Timoner’s rock-documentary DiG! if you’ve never seen it, heard of it, or have seen it half a dozen times (like me) or more. Super intense and amazingly entertaining and Sundance Grand Jury Prize award winning  look at not just two bands’ symbiotic  and tumultuous relationships’ to each other, but the touring and creative life in general. Hilarious, freaky & groovy, sex, drugs, death threats and fashion – basically everything you want rock music to be. Check it!
